In honor of World Oceans Day on June 8, beauty brands are stepping up to the plate to help promote marine conservation. While the ocean makes up more than 70 percent of the earth's surface, 80 percent of marine pollution comes from land. The damage is severe: as one of ELLE's July cover stars Anja Rubik called out, 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into the oceans yearly, which compromises the resource we rely on for oxygen, climate regulation, food, and more.  Ahead, find a brand trying to make a difference.

World Oceans Day was first established in 1992 to help the public recognize how crucial of a role it plays in our ecosystem and to prioritize protecting ocean wildlife.

There are nearly 200 do-good beauty products in MWR's catalog. We liked this moisturizer from Aypa, a fair trade brand that uses superfood ingredients harvested ecologically in Peru.
